5. Develop complete monitoring and sampling procedures

NILU provides technical descriptions necessary for “turning the data into information”. This includes preparing the documentation for instruments, data retrieval and handling systems.

Monitors will be linked to on-line data retrieval systems. Manuals for Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs) will be established for all measurement sites. Samplers, such as sequential samplers, high volume samplers and passive samplers, may be added to the programme where needed.

NILU may specify the air pollution components (indicators) to be monitored, selection of instruments required, as well as evaluation and selection of sites to meet the measurement objectives. The relevant instrumentation for each of the typical site characteristics will be selected, sampling times and relevant sampling frequencies will be identified. Pilot studies or screening studies may be evaluated to check the represenativity of the different monitoring stations.
