Progress on better air
quality despite summer smog

Clean air targets
for 2003 are being met despite the effects of last summer's heatwave
on pollution. The government's provisional annual Air Quality Headline
Indicator, published today, estimates that there were more than
twice as many days of higher air pollution last year as there were
in 2002.
