NILUs Internet competence, originating from the need to develop solutions for air pollution research programmes as well as presenting our scientific programmes and results to the public, has materialised in a broad expertise, giving NILU a great variety of Internet solutions available to various clients.
Internet solutions to meet the Client
NILU can deliver different web solutions depending on the needs and requirements from the various clients. There are several ways of showing information on the Internet. There are also many ways of using the Internet both for presenting general information, projects and results, as well as dissemination of online environmental data retrieved directly from monitoring networks. Interactive data input and retrieval have also been developed for students and schools. NILU is delivering Internet solutions for urban city and road authorities, linked to the AirQUIS monitoring and modelling platform utilising the automatic data retrieval system
(ADACS).
Technical platforms
NILUs Internet solutions are run by different systems, depending on the task at hand. The core of most solutions is an Oracle database with Cold Fusion templates and with a special designed interface developed for and by NILU, to give completely dynamic solutions. This means that all information shown on a web page is generated from fixed adjustable templates, extracting information, pictures, graphs etc. from the database and presenting it "on the fly" to the viewer. In other words, all the contents are stored in databases. When some process updates the database-content, the Internet pages automatically are updated.
